how it all began

Mrs Baa (aka Janice Anderson)

Baa! owner and fibre nut, Janice, claims to have an atrocious memory, but, despite this, she’s able to locate any one of our 200+ shades of Jamiesons of Shetland Spindrift with impressive accuracy!

Janice has worked as a freelance knitwear designer, mum, childminder, children’s art tutor,

Rowan Yarns Consultant (John Lewis, Aberdeen), pattern writer and knitting tutor.

After establishing a successful knit group in Stonehaven in 2012, a tiny seed was planted. That seed finally grew and blossomed with the opening of Baa! in 2018.

our knowledge

Just me and my needles

With a BA(Hons) in Textiles from Grays School of Art (now RGU, Aberdeen), Janice began her career via a work placement at Drumohr, a cashmere factory in Dumfries, Scotland. Sadly, now closed, this short but valuable experience triggered a lifelong love and appreciation of natural fibres and finishing techniques.

Meet the Baa! team

Freelance Virtual Assistant

Sophie Petherick

Sophie is a knitting enthusiast and the wordsmith working behind the scenes here at Baa! She picked up her needles back in 2013 and hasn’t looked back since. What’s Sophie’s fave knitting project to date? Probably her modified Tendreil Sweater which omitted the pattern’s characteristic cables – oops! – ‘cause whilst she can give all her brain to writing about yarn, it needs to have a chance to switch off when knitting it up!
Owner, knitting tutor

Janice Anderson

Janice is the knowledgeable, friendly face behind Baa! When it comes to knitting, her favourite technique is stranded colour-work. She also claims to be the Queen of WIP’s and has a particular talent for completing only one sock while claiming to prefer wearing mismatched pairs.

Assistant

Linda Murray

Taught by her mum, Linda learned to knit before she started school. She is a crocheter too but Linda’s real passion is knitting, especially fine lace and 4ply. Linda trained as a nurse and social worker before moving into health and safety as care home inspector. Linda has a big heart and pops in to support Janice at the shop whenever needed. She is also super fast at knitting fab shop samples!
